Our archive at the Parker Homestead-1665 holds over 350 years of family and Little Silver history. We are glad to share that our virtual archive is now complete, featuring a digital collection of books, records, sheet music, and postcards. This remains a work in progress, so we are periodically updating entries, adding images, and expanding the collection.
Feel free to explore what is online now, and stay tuned as we continue to digitize the remaining binders and boxes from our physical collection.
Since "The Parker Homestead - 1665, Inc." was organized, we had planned to create a research library open to anyone interested in learning about Parker or Monmouth County history. No one was more interested in local history than Julia Parker and there are hundreds of books, fiction, and nonfiction, found in the house. Volunteer Joanne Ferguson has been sorting and filing to create the paper version of our library using these Parker resources.
Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that our virtual archive is now complete! This extensive digital repository contains all the books, records, music sheets, and postcards found within the Parker Homestead collection. While the foundation is complete, it remains a living project; we are still actively editing the collection, fixing entries, and adding new materials periodically. Please note that while some entries are currently missing images, our team is working hard to update them.
Joanne has also created a LibGuide offering you links to several digital databases, which allows you to research census, newspaper, and other archives for local history information. She has even taped instructions for you if you need help using the databases.
